Chemung Station Shed.
Sometime before June, 2015. This is an area along the mainline where I had built a trellis for a wisteria bush/tree. Since it never blossomed and I had tried all different ways to get it to blossom, Mary Ellen said take it out. So I removed the wisteria bush/tree, but left the trellis because it was also holding up our satellite dish.
June 2015, I knew I was going to sometime, put in the river division, running around behind the trellis, I installed some 6x6 pieces of PT lumber we had around, to make a support wall. I am planning on filling in the area in front of the wall for the railroad to run through here.

Aug, 2016. Now we move to 2016 and Mary Ellen and I have been discussing about what to do with the trellis. She had also been making comments about how full the garage is and that I needed to get rid of some of the train engines and cars. So, during one of the many discussions, I suggested that the trellis could be made into a storage shed and I could put some of the train stuff and she could put some of her garden figures in there for winter storage. Well, it could not be just any kind of shed it would have to look nice! So, the station shed idea began to develop. I drew up some sketches and got the final approval from the CFO of the railroad, Mary Ellen. Then drew up plans and started on the building, right after getting the building permit. We had 4, PT 4x4's cemented in for the corners and some PT 2x4's doing the upper and cross supports. First was to get the header laterals installed. 2 2x4, one on each side of the upright 4x4's, front and back. I had it all thought out and figured that I could build the roof around the dish antenna and leave it right where it was. Next up was to build the trusses and to get them up on the structure.
Sept, 2016. Ok, I was wrong! After getting the trusses up on the laterals figured out that I was going to have to have the satellite dish moved. Called the dish people and got it moved to the roof on the house. Mary Ellen was right, she had warned me that the antenna was going to have to be moved and she was right! Now I can continue on with getting the trusses and then the roof sheathing. Then on to tar paper and shingles. Found a real nice reddish brown shingles at the local big box building store.
Oct, 2016. Finished up the roof and then dug out a little and built in the floor joist's. Next installed the wall studding and built the bay widow studding. Yes a station needs a bay window, even if it is just a shed!
Finished up the month by getting the wall sheathing on three sides, that include the bay window area and installing one of the bay windows. We had purchased the window from a surplus store just for the build. The other two side windows I would have to build.

Nov, 2016. Since this was going to be used for storage, I wanted to have two big doors on the side to get into the shed. Built the doors and installed them. Also took pieces of window glass and framed it in on the side bay window area's. This gives the bay window area a nice look. The plan was to get the shed at least sealed up before winter set in. Well the weather held out and I was able get it sealed up plus get the floor installed, a coat of satin on the outside, batten installed and stained on the siding seams and siding installed up above the side walls up into the roof truss area. I will stain the upper siding area later. Plus I cut down a window sash we had gotten from the surplus barn over on Snell road, to fit the door and installed.
Dec, 2016. Weather is getting a little spotty but did get the staining done on the front bay window battens. Ok, the weather has turned bad so moved to the basement wood shop to build the freight door and frame. Built the frame and got a coat of green stain on it. Wanted to have a freight door like the one on the old Chemung station, so cut saw kerfs on opposing 45 deg. angles and framed and trimmed it in. Got a new Christmas decoration, a lighted steam engine and tender. Put it out in front of the station. Also, got a picture of the train and garden stuff being stored. Finished the month by putting a coat of green stain on the freight door. Merry Christmas!
Jan, 2017. The weather turned nice in the middle of the month so got out and cut the opening for the freight door frame and installed. Then installed the freight door to the frame and painted with green stain, on the other door, where the passenger door is, with the window in it. Had a "Chemung" sign made up by the Sign Lady, Susan Niver of Gillette, NY. She makes railroad sign's for the area. I installed it on the siding, right above the center bay window. Not sure if I like it there?
Feb, 2017. Decided that I did not like where the sign was, so moved it out to the roof overhang area. Put it on loop hooks, so it can swing in the wind. Looks Great to me!
Mar, 2017. OK, winter is here!
April, 2017. Found a "closed will be back at" sign at the dollar store and put it up in the passenger door window. Set it for 1:00 o'clock. He, He, He.
Sept, 2017. Got a metal "Railway Express" sign from Schrader's. Started on building the decking out from the Station shed on the front and the freight/passenger door side. Dug out and got the framing installed.
Oct, 2017. Got the decking installed on the front deck and started on the side. Cut some boards to length but decided to get the rail installed. Got out a couple of pieces of curved rail and installed them in the deck framing. Then cut the decking to fit and installed around the rail. Next, removed a section of straight rail out of the mainline and installed a switch. Rototilled out the area going down to the station shed, removed the dirt and installed the sub-ballast. Re-installed the section of track that was taken out of the mainline and bent some short pieces of rail to connect to the rail on the station deck. Got it all installed and ballasted in. Finished up with making a stop for the track at the back of the deck and installing so the trains or cars will not roll of the back.
