Little Work Car W/plastic pipe wheel's
June, 2016. Decided to make a little work car like on Calvert Central Railroad. Purchased the plastic pipe parts but had to go with a 4x3 reducer bushing and then a 3x2 reducer bushing to get to the 2 inch pipe. He used a 4x2 reducer bushing but I could not find any around here at a good price, so got the two for less than the one big one.
July, 2016. Glued the bushings together and on to the pipe. Set the gauge for 7 1/4" just to be sure. Then hole sawed out the wood axles supports.
Aug, 2016. Glued in the wood axle supports with high strength epoxy.
Nov, 2017. Now we skip over a year. Got the speeder and the speeder work car out of the basement wood shop. So got out the plywood I had purchased last year and cut the parts for the box of the car. Assembled the box and cut the 2x4 axle/wheel supports. Drilled out the axle bearing area with a hole saw. Knocked out the area for the bearing and drilled the hole for the axle to go through the support. Attached the flange bearings with wood screws. Tight enough to hold but loose enough for the bearing to float a little.
Dec, 2017. Took back apart and put a coat of Rust-o-leum oil base primer for metal and spray painted the wheels. Had to move the thing out to the metal shop because the fumes were bothering my wife. Will put the finish coat of paint on the box when the weather gets warmer outside.
